Commissioning Valentino Cupcakes

My friend Tracey is a creative planner extraordinaire and has commissioned me (insert: trusted me) with the production of Valentino inspired cupcakes for her sister's upcoming bridal shower.  The girls will be visiting the Gallery of Modern Art and the Valentino exhibition (obviously).

Tracey had the idea of each guest being presented with a little Valentio themed gift... enter Digella!

This is the inspiration...

So please... any ideas send my way. I am thinking of mixing some shades of pink of butter cream in a piping bag which could work really well. I just need to find a technique which will produce a rather high cupcake decoration which looks like ruffles.

Send ideas post-haste!

  1. First of all, let me say that I used to love the kewpie dolls too and always used to get one when I went to the show as a little girl... Now onto those cupcakes... Have a look at: http://www.fourandtwentyblackbirds.net/gallery-cakes-cupcakes.html and in particular the one called ruffle cupcake. If that is not what you are after, I am sure this site will give you plenty of inspiration. Good luck and enjoy the Valentino exhibition. ;-)

  3. I've been thinking of doing something similar by using a carnation fondant cutter and arranging all the ruffled petal circles together over the cake. If you do a search on carnation fondant ruffles you should probably find something. But it would be quite a lot of work.

  4. How about doing a Turkish Delight cupcake with dusty rose coloured & rose water flavoured ruffles on top, decorated with silver cachous?
