Hello Yellow Digella Ruffles

These beauties deserve a post of their own don't you think!

I had used up all my cake decorator yellow colouring and was forced to resort to Queens Yellow which I thought would be fine. Alas not. Look, it was fine in the grand scheme of things, but as I was going for a butter yellow and it turned into a bright yellow I was disappointed.

How did this happen? Did I add too much? Well no, I carefully added the colour and was happy with the result. Then iced the cakes and two hours later I came home and they had changed! They were a much brighter yellow.

So that is a lesson learnt. Take care with inferior yellow colouring!

These are now known as Digella Ruffle Cupcakes. I am loving them.

The Valentino Cupcakes

Lucky for my new Wilton Coupler giving me the ability to change nibs without the drama of removing all the icing from one bag to another and all the mess and drama involved with that.

It only required one change and I had exactly the one I wanted.

This is how they came out...

Safe in their little cupcake boxes ready to give to the girls at the bridal shower

NOTE:  I used a Wilton Petal Tip angled with the larger opening to the bottom. I made a little mound of icing in the middle to add height. Then starting from the outside I worked around and around into the middle.

Commissioning Valentino Cupcakes

My friend Tracey is a creative planner extraordinaire and has commissioned me (insert: trusted me) with the production of Valentino inspired cupcakes for her sister's upcoming bridal shower.  The girls will be visiting the Gallery of Modern Art and the Valentino exhibition (obviously).

Tracey had the idea of each guest being presented with a little Valentio themed gift... enter Digella!

This is the inspiration...

So please... any ideas send my way. I am thinking of mixing some shades of pink of butter cream in a piping bag which could work really well. I just need to find a technique which will produce a rather high cupcake decoration which looks like ruffles.

Send ideas post-haste!

Big Fat Croation First Holy Communion MkII (The Theme)

Here we have the theme pallet for little Liana’s First Communion reception.

These image ideas were gathered from all over the place but mostly from The Cupcake Company HERE and Party Perfect HERE and Martha Stewart.

I was slightly scared to reveal the pallet to her for fear that I may fail at delivering on the goods. If I dont - I'm screwed!

But with the bloggy inspiration world and goods from The Cupcake Courier HERE and Details Details HERE and Martha Stewart I am sure to succeed.

You can read more about this 'Big Fat' event HERE.
Let me know what you think.

Cupcakes

Today was Cupcake Day!
I had been telling everyone I was going to the Cupcake Queen to learn about cupcake decorating.  It was fantastic and I had the best time with a great group of girls and not one failure tantrum, we all produced beautiful cupcakes!

I wish I snapped more photos of the all the girls and Sharnel at the event. It was not until I arrived home and my cuppies started being taste-tested devoured that I felt like crying because they were gone and I hadn't documented enough of it.

It was a very interesting, informing and inspiring session. Sharnel is the walking encyclopaedia on all things ‘cake decorating’ and you have her at your disposal for at least two and a half hours to ask questions, get advice and listen to all her ideas and inspirations. If you ask really nicely, she may even share her recipe for home made Vanilla Extract... YUM.

This is what I created today at The Cupcake Company
